Hot tub season is officially here, and we just wrapped up a clean install for a customer in Bozeman. Getting a hot tub wired correctly from the start is one of those things that really matters - not just for the tub to function, but for the safety of everyone using it.
Here's what a proper hot tub electrical setup actually involves. We ran rigid metal conduit along the exterior of the home, keeping everything tight to the wall and secured cleanly at the base. No loose wiring, no shortcuts. The conduit feeds up into a dedicated outdoor disconnect panel - a Square D Homeline rainproof loadcenter rated for 100A max - mounted right on the exterior wall near the tub.
That disconnect panel is a code requirement for a reason. It gives you a safe, accessible way to cut power to the hot tub before any maintenance or service work. The panel we installed is purpose-built for outdoor use with a NEMA 3R rainproof enclosure, so it handles Montana weather without any issues. Inside, you've got properly sized breakers - two 30A breakers for the hot tub circuits and a 20A breaker - all labeled and ready to go.
Water and electricity are a serious combination. When hot tubs get wired improperly - wrong breaker sizing, no dedicated disconnect, buried wiring without conduit - it creates real hazards. We take that seriously on every single install. The goal is always a setup that's safe, code-compliant, and built to last.
If you've got a hot tub or sauna going in this summer, don't leave the electrical as an afterthought. This is exactly the kind of work we do, and we're glad to help get it done right.
